The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities CARF International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. Founded in 1966, CARF accredits more than 60,000 programs and services, with nearly 14million people of all ages, served annually by CARF, accredited providers in the following areas:
- Aging Services,
- Behavioral Health
- Child and Youth Services
- Employment and Community Services
- Medical Rehabilitation
- Opioid Treatment Programs, etc.
The steps to receiving an accreditation may involve 6-9months of preparation before a site survey is conducted. Organizations will typically perform a self-evaluation where the service provider will evaluate the conformance of their policies and procedures to CARF standards. Upon completing a self-survey of compliance, an organization will submit a survey application that includes detailed information about leadership, the programs and services the provider seeks to accredit, and service delivery locations. CARF fees are based on the number of surveyors and days needed to complete the survey. Application fees are currently $995, and survey fees are $1,670 per day without the additional cost of travel, lodging and etc.
CARF’s survey team is selected by matching their administrative expertise and relevant field experience with a service provider’s unique requirements. The survey will include on-site observation of services rendered, interviewing persons served, and reviewing documentation. Once the survey team conducts a survey and determines the provider’s conformance to their applicable standards CARF will then render an accreditation decision of
